Lila’s 2nd Birthday

22 Mar

Lila’s birthday was wonderful. We had sunny, warm weather and Lila was surrounded by friends and family that love her dearly. This birthday was quite different than last year because Lila was able to maneuver on her own and her little hands were constantly reaching for food. We had to keep an eye on the cupcake table to make sure she didn’t lick the icing off every cupcake.

The theme for her party was Charlotte’s Web. I had envisioned more of a farm party but it took a turn toward bright pops of color, which I was also happy with. I have a love for bright colors and gravitate towards anything that pops.

I have lots of photos from the big day:)

I loved doing the bright pom poms, it really added an extra layer to the room

Fun color all around!

My mom made the cute little pig cupcakes and they were as tasty as they are adorable. The cake was made by a lady that made my birthday cakes growing up. The flavor brought back so many memories.

I think the highlight of the day for Lila was when she received her new wagon from Papaw Barry. She stayed in it for about an hour straight.

This past year went by too quickly and I have a feeling they are only going to speed up as we move forward. I am excited about the future but I’m trying to remember to live in the moment and make the most of each new memory.

Lila-

I don’t know how it is possible that I am throwing around ideas about your 2nd birthday. I could swear it was only yesterday I was gathering everything up for your 1st birthday and anticipating the excitement you would have as you dove into your cake. By the way, that never happened on you first birthday. You would barely touch the cake so we basically all stood and watched you watch your cake. It was still thrilling!

I have been prepping you lately by asking you how old you are. I have shown you how to hold up two little fingers and you are catching on quickly. I think of all the things we have accomplished over the last two years and it makes me proud. But, then as I begin to look toward the future I am a bit timid. I tend to worry about things that far off and how I will handle a situation if you are ever in it. Then my mom gently reminds me that I might not be ready now but when the time comes I will be prepared. Mothers always know the right thing to say.

Over the past month you have begun to love Disney movies. Your favorites are Charlotte’s Web and Cinderella. You would sit and watch them all day if we let you. Even though you love the movies you are still loving books to no end. You take an armful of books everywhere you go. We have discovered our best ally for nap time is a stack of books. As long as you have a pile of books by your side you immediately forget about fact we are making you lie down for a nap. I am enjoying this time until you figure out our handy new trick.

Sometimes I feel like we speak a foreign language to each other. Each day you are discovering new words and creating your own, unique way to say them. It is our job to decipher what they are and sometimes you leave us stumped. It is incredible though when you pull a new word out of thin air. I usually look around for a witness because I instantly think you are a genius. I guess every mother has her own little genius, but you are mine.

I want to enjoy every second of this last month. I love you my little bug.

Lila Doodle-

I am several days late in writing this to you and I am upset with myself because I have missed the last several months of doing your monthly update. When life gets busy around here this blog is one of the first things that falls by the wayside. Hopefully I can get you caught up on the cool things you have been up to.

You are talking more and more each day and with each new word that comes out of your mouth I am absolutely floored. It is wild to watch you develop and grow right in front of Β my eyes. Just tonight you said “love you” for the first time to me. I could have squeezed you in two it made me so happy. One of your favorite words that you are saying right now is puppy. You say it as “buppie”…..I know, too cute. Your daddy and I read you numerous books each day and you simply devour them. You are also quite possessive over your books and don’t really want to share them. Sharing is definitely an area we are trying to work on with you. We have to remind you on a daily basis that big girls share.

We had attempted to start introducing you to the potty and you were doing really well with it but then just a few days ago you decided you didn’t want anything to do with it. That’s fine though, it is a little early anyway and I am in no hurry to rush it with you. We are gonna take a break from it for a few months and then revisit.

There are days I want to record everything you do because I don’t want to forget it and I try to make mental notes to myself. I know those moments are quickly forgotten about. However, you did have two gems for me tonight. As soon as we walked in the door tonight you walked in and picked up a book called “Counting Kisses.” It counts down from 10 telling us all the places to give you kissses. You turned straight to the page that said “10 kisses on your teeny tiny toes” and promptely lifted up your foot and started kissing it. Then we jumped in the shower and you laid down with your booty up in the air and told me “nigh nigh.” I asked you if you were gonna go to sleep in the shower and you simply replied, “yeah.” It was the sweetest.

Speaking of sleep, you are doing pretty well. The 2-3 weeks after Christmas were a nightmare. With all the excitement, travel and different schedules your whole routine was kinda thrown off. For several weeks you were waking up with night terrors in the middle of the night and then you would wake up between 4 and 5 and be ready for the day. I was not a happy camper and was so tired. Finally after a few weeks you have gotten back to your regular schedule of sleeping from 8pm to 7am. Sleeping in til 7 sounds amazing after weeks of waking up at 4 and 5. Thanks for getting back on track:)

I know there are million things I am leaving out but I promise I am going to do better about your monthly updates. I do want you to know that you bring so much joy to our lives each day and I never imagined I could be this happy. You are so loving and I am so thankful that you show us so much affection each day. That is the favorite part of my everyday.

We love you sweet baby.

Oh, Hi! I’m Still Here.

30 Oct

As you can see I fell short on finishing my 31 Days project. I think I made it 25 days and then I lost steam. I’m ok with that though, 25 days is pretty notable and now I have some really fun stories to look back on. Things in our life have been really busy and on the go for the last week.

Thursday night I got down to business making Lila’s Halloween Costume and that took most of the evening. On Friday after work, I picked Lila up and we went to Food City for a Halloween Contest they were sponsoring. She didn’t win but she made a super cute Pocahontas! She had so much fun roaming around the store and investigating all the other kids in costume. I was worn out when we got done. It’s a ton of work to keep up with a toddler in a huge space and to make sure they don’t destroy everything πŸ˜‰ Here is her little outfit.

Photo: Lila found the tailgating section of the grocery store and got comfy...silly girl http://instagr.am/p/RRKccbrHOc/

I plan to take her trick-or-treating tomorrow so I hope to get a ton more pictures. Also, I am dressing up with her tomorrow too. I can’t wait. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and dressing up is the best.

On Saturday we traveled to Johnson City to see family and to celebrate our cousin Ella’s 4th birthday party. It was held at the Hands On Museum and it was so much fun. They had so many activities that Lila could do and she had a blast. After the party was over we didn’t want to just go back to Knoxville so we went and hung out with the family some more. It was just a small group of us and it was so much fun to just hang out an enjoy each other’s company. We got to see the end of the football game and see our Vol’s get beat yet AGAIN. That didn’t put a damper on things though. The girls played together and entertained us and then we had an awesome home-cooked meal. I love family. We ended up leaving about 7:30 and Lila was asleep before we got to the end of the road. Poor thing was exhausted.

On Sunday we had the laziest of days. It was so rainy and cold that we stayed in all day reading books, playing, napping and being lazy. We didn’t get out of our PJ’s all day and then the only reason we changed was to have dinner with my mom. I ended the night with a little Revenge on ABC. Love that show:)

Now we are back into the work week and just trying to keep up! How do the weekends go by so fast? I will never know.

Lila-

I have been going through looking at old pictures of you. I barely remember that 8lb baby I held in arms, swaddled so tightly, and sat up nights with. When I look at the pictures it is unfathomable that time has passed so quickly. I know that’s what everyone tells you, to enjoy it because they grow up too fast. Some days in the midst of motherhood I think I must have my blinders on. I don’t see how small you still are and I know in a few months I will be looking back on pictures of today relishing you’re itty bittyness.

I wish I could store up each day in a jar so I could go back and take the lid off and relive our moments. I know that’s not possible so I am trying to enjoy each moment with you and not take it for granted. You are the funniest little girl and fill our lives with so much joy. You are starting to use your words a bit more and it is so funny to hear all the little things that come out of your mouth. I can’t wait to see what you do tomorrow but I am enjoying what you are bringing to my today.

Love you so much, Mama

Lila Bug-

You are getting to be such a big girl and you make us laugh so much everyday. We just went for your check-up and your stats are in.

Weight: 27lbs 7oz

Height: 32 3/4 inches

This puts you in the 85% for your age. You’re a healthy girl!

For a while there we thought you were going to be missing some teeth. They had been popping up in an unusual pattern that the dr. hadn’t seen before. However, in the past week all the ones we were worried about are sprouting up! Yay, you have teeth. That was a big deal for me because my mouth had to go on a journey. I was missing several teeth and I didn’t want you to have to follow in my footsteps. I guess the journey isn’t really over for you but things are looking up.

You are quite the little jabber-box. We really don’t know what you are saying but we love to hear you rattle away. I was a little concerned about how many words you were saying or I guess lack thereof but the dr. has reassured me you are right on track. You have about 10 words in your vocabulary right now and he expects you will be exploding with new ones over the next few months. Your favorite word though is “mama” and you say it about 400 times a day. I love it though and the sweet little voice that says it.

You my friend, are a great little alarm clock. I really don’t even need to set my alarm each morning because you are so consistent. I never have to worry about sleeping past 7:15. I love the mornings with you because you are still sleepy and cuddly but I also look forward to the moment you realize the magic of sleeping in….we can still cuddle if you sleep in:)

You are a little book-reading machine. Well, technically we read the books to you but you will sit still for book after book and you love to flip through each page. This really makes me happy because I know for a fact I hated to be read to when I was little. I just love the way you climb in our laps and curl up in just the right spot for story time. Β I hope you always love books like this…you definitely got that trait from your daddy.

The other thing you really enjoy is dancing. You will dance anywhere, anytime. You are so entertaining to watch. You will get up and shake your lil butt all over the place…I realize this won’t be nearing as cute in about 15 years but I am loving it for the moment.

I just want you to know that your daddy and I love you more than anything in the world. So much it hurts.

Little lady you really are trying to grow up too fast.
From my shoes to my undergarments, you want to test them all out. You like to rifle through my closet and bring each item of clothing to me one by one. Mommy’s little helper:) You have also become a huge fan of trying to ride the doggies around the around the house. Bless their hearts, they are good sports. You are are also chasing the cats like it is your job. I mean, you are crawling under tables, reaching over chairs, just trying your darndest to pet the kitties. They don’t appreciate it as much as the pups.
You are still loving books. You will sit in the floor flipping through books for quite a while and then you will bring them to both Josh and I to read to you. We both love that because you will crawl up in our laps and find just the right spot and sit still most of the time while we read them to you. Peek-a-boo is still a big hit and you are always willing to play back with us.
You are understanding so many things it is crazy. We can ask you to shut the drawer, go get your shoes or give us a high five and you know what to do. How do you understand us? I really want to know. Sometimes you take these three minute power naps in the car that seem to replace a two hour nap and that is kinda awful. Those are hard days on mommy. Luckily your daddy is a good one and lets mommy get a breather with a nap now and then.
I think one of my favorite things about you right now is the amount of affection that you show. You are constantly hugging our legs, stretching your arms out to be picked up, and laying your head on our shoulders. I hope you are always that loving and I look forward to everyday with you.
Love you buggy.

Happy 15 months buggy! (I’m a few days late.)

Awesome things about you:

– you are babbling up a storm and are sneaking new words in on us everyday

– you are sprouting teeth all over your mouth which is helping you try a variety of food

– you are a little welcome wagon everywhere we go, waving to people and blowing kisses

– you have taken a big interest in books lately and want to bring one with you everywhere you go

– you voluntarily come and climb in our laps and give us leg hugs

– your curly hair is getting really long and is starting to get uncontrollable….I think it is so cute though so I just let it do its thing

Not so awesome things:

– a few weeks ago you took a bite out of the babysitter’s leather couch….we got it repaired for her

– you have no fear of anything, the other day you wiggled away from me and fell down our front porch steps. You gave me a heart attack and you have quite and impressive knot on your head

– the mosquitoes love you and we can’t go outside for any length of time without them nibbling away at your sweet skin

– you still like to get up really early….mommy is not a morning person

My favorite time with you is still in the evening right before bedtime. You will let me snuggle you close and lie your head on my shoulder. It is such a peaceful time and I always look forward to it.

You have our hearts in your hand. We love you.

16 May

(On Mother’s Day on the way home from brunch, about to pass out.)

Hello my beautiful girl! You are 14 months old today and you have spunk.

Each morning when you wake up you bring a new skill to the day. Over the past 14 months we have become accustomed to talking to you and not really getting much of a response back. However, these days you are really starting to understand things we say. It is amazing that you can completely understand us but we have no idea what you are saying.

What are you doing these days you may ask.

– waking up at 6:30 everyday….even on the weekend

– maintaining a healthy appetite and will devour anything involving pasta

– you have been without your pacifier for a couple of days now (more on that tomorrow)

– you have become my little shadow, where I go, you go

– you love to be held these days, even more so than when you were smaller. you walk up to us and stretch out your arms signaling for us to pick you up

– your laugh is contagious

– you wave “hi” and “bye” to people everywhere we go

– your dad and I hold daily conversations about how awesome we think you are

– you have mastered the screeching noise when we take something away from you….it makes me break out in a hot sweat when we are in public

– you chase all the animals around the house like a zombie, with outstretched arms

You are the most important thing in our lives. If you are happy and healthy at the end of the day then I mark that a successful day in my book.

You are so loved little girl.

Love, Mama

Happy 13 months little lady.

You are full speed ahead, there is no stopping you. You are walking everywhere and getting a bit more steady everyday. You are still having tumbles and trips which have resulted in several bumps and bruises. Your latest scrape was my fault. I was pulling you in your little wagon and tipped you over, on the concrete. I think it scared you more than anything because you weren’t far from the ground. I just felt terrible. I think we are going to have to upgrade your wagon to something a bit more sturdy. You love for me to pull you around and when it is time to get out you cry.

You are warming up to the sippy cups but you really insist on having handles to hold.

You love being outside. We spent a lot of the weekend outside and you seem to love the fresh air and being able to watch everything going on around you.

Your appetite is still great and sometimes I think you might have a hollow leg, you are just a bottomless pit. However, I love that you like to eat….just like mama!

I think you are going to have bad allergies like your daddy. You have been super snotty and congested for over a week now. At first I thought it was a cold but since I never got sick we have decided it’s those mean ole allergies. You can’t blow your nose so I have to use the little sucker on you, and let me tell you….there’s not much you hate more than having me try and clean out your nose. Fun times for both of us.

Over the weekend I purchased you a back-up Henry (the giraffe). I have been so paranoid about losing him or leaving him somewhere that I wanted to have another one when the time comes.

We haven’t turned your carseat forward yet but I think we may do it soon. Your legs are getting long and I think it will make car rides more enjoyable for you.

You still enjoy bath time but you don’t really take it sitting down anymore. You insist on standing and examining each end of the bathtub. You also love to come and lay your wet little head on my lap as you make a whirl around the tub.

You are quite the adventure buggy and we are having so much fun together.

I love you so much.

Love always, Mama
